Last Post for 2013

We have come to the end of another year but the minis don't paint themselves so these are what I have had the chance to work on over the last week or so. Hope you all have a safe and happy new year and see you online or at the club in January. Bring on CanCon 2014, I might even enter a comp this year. Who knows.....

Painting Competition a success, even if I do say so myself.

Well Friday saw our Painting competition and there was a grand total of 36 entries in total for a grab at 21 places and a couple of consolation prizes. Barry kindly stepped into the breach to judge the competition. Yet we all voted for the best in show. This final award was a close run thing as 7 votes went to Brendan's beautiful High Elf Griffin from the fantasy section and 9 votes went to Reon for his Rhino with "hitch-hiker".

It has to be said a big thank you goes to
Eureka Miniatures for Paints and Brushes as prizes.
War and Peace Games for Paint sets, Brushes, Basing flock, magnets and other goodies
The Combat Company for 2 $25.00 vouchers to spend in their store
Micks Metal Models for 2 lots of 15mm World War two packs of miniatures.

Also those club members that read this blog will note that the excess cash we build up throughout the year goes back into the club as we buy some of the prizes too, namely some Mantic game material, GW boxedsets and more paint that the grand prize of GWs Dreadfleet.

Nice but not a winner

Beholder no prize but I liked it

Man o War ship nice but no winner

I showed this before but I wanted to point out how the orange glow from the sword plays out on the armour and even the grass tuft. This was the first attempt at object source lighting by the painter.

Another Game of malifaux

Battle fleet Gothic game on the night, notice the deeeeeep contemplation of the rules, which stemmed from a collision between a whopping big ship and a smaller frigate like ship.

Well I hope that everyone enjoyed the night sadly it will be the last for December but we will return in January.

15mm Bactrians for Basic Impetus finished

Well this is the first army in ages I've actually finished. Most of the figures are old gladiator with a xyston and Essex general or two. I have a Ancient Indian army on the go as well and when I pick up the last Impetus army book the two will combine to make around 300 points of Greaco-Indians or that is the hope.

The Whole force with the ability to alter it a little. Light infantry and Pike in the centre flanked by General Heavy Cavalry and Cataphracts with more heavy cavalry and Aracosian light horse on the other flank. Two Persian light horse bring up the rear.
Close up of the Pike
Well tomorrow night is the painting comp so lets see what the club has in store for us. I hope to show some of the winners over the weekend.

WIP lets paint some stuff

Well just because I am not in our painting competition does not mean that I can't get in on the act of painting. + there is a nice online blog painting competition that pits the participants against themselves and on another to paint some minis in the next two weeks. Well I am not in it but I can still have a go.

Painting tutorial 101

Well our Saturday day and Friday night club meetings have come and gone. I ran a painting tutorial for the kids in the club along with the help from one of our premier painters. Sorry no images of the games being played. Just to busy. The Friday night was interesting in that some of the lads came back for more painting advice, we must have done something right! I also had the chance to run two small introductory games of GWs Lord of the Rings game. I still really like this system as a great skirmish introduction and well the Perry twins miniatures for the game still rank up as some really great figures.

I really must thank. Nic from Eureka Miniatures, Ian from War and Peace games, Russel from The Combat Company and Mick from Mick's Metal Miniatures. their support for our painting competition has been absolutely wonderful and with some of the club money being ploughed back in to support prizes we have over $500 in giveaways for the Friday the 13th Games Night. So club members keep painting you are going to win something  worthwhile. (the links on the side will take you to our supporters websites, so please buy your toys from these people.)

4 prospective winners for the painting competition working hard. We attempted to show basic block painting, dry brushing, shading with inks and washes and even edge highlighting.

Another potential winner.

The lads strolled off but you can make out the minis in the process of having paint applied. Another attempt at dry brushing.
My latest additions, BGFOTR thanks Plastic Soldier Company. An Archer and White Scout Car from Skytreks , and the new 15mm Churchill from PSC that came with the rules for free. Loved this model it was a joy to build and with so many variants in the box it makes an AVRE or with a turret swap a MarkV just great.

Small Night at the Club and our upcoming Painting Competition

Well it was a smaller night on Friday but still a decent turn out less MTG players but the miniature gamers held up the numbers. On with the photos.
Big Battle DBA in 20mm with a curious onlooker. I'll attempt to show him the smaller DBA structure at school next week.

The second demo game of Warhammer Fantasy Battles for one of our more feminine members. We always find that when you show a game to someone and you let them win............ well they seem to enjoy the game more. Oh she won!!!

Tzeench Chaos army that was up against another chaos force that I negelected to take a photo of. Oh Chaos won.

Chaos vs Orks not sure who won sorry.

3 way Malifaux game using Rorkes Drift Buildings cool.

A Malifaux crew well on the way to entering our painting competition.

Nids vs Space Wolves, it ended in a draw but only just.
Well as a little further notice to club members we are holding our biennial painting competition on Friday the 13th of December.
Competition Entries will include (one per category per person to spread the prizes)

Single non vehicle miniature
Tank or Vehicle
Unit of 5-10 models

Single Non large Miniature
Monster or Vehicle/Artillery/Siege weapons etc

I would really like to thank all of the sponsors for donating prizes to support us. War and Peace Games, The Combat Company, Eureka Miniatures and Micks Metal Models, there links are on the left to help club members support these companies. So far we have over $500 in prizes so paint away ladies and gentlemen.
